Ahead of EPA regs, House committee challenges their scientific foundation

eepublishingSHouse Republicans slammed the process behind a landmark international climate change science report yesterday, accusing the system of perpetuating groupthink and quashing dissenting opinions.

The comments, voiced during a House Science, Space and Technology Committee hearing, targeted the central findings of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that form the scientific foundation for the emissions regulations for U.S. coal plants that President Obama is expected to announce Monday.

“The reports give the Obama administration an excuse to control more of the lives of the American people,” said Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas), referencing the IPCC reports and the White House’s National Climate Assessment, released earlier this month.
